Mike was a popular member of the class of 1952. During his Sr. Matric Year ('53) he was voted "King of the Kampus" His romance with Shirley Evans was the talk of the Kampus, (as it was known by students then). He married the love of his life and they spent 52 happy years together.

TONKS, Dr. Michael JamesSeptember 13, 1934 - February 27, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved husband, father and grandfather. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley, children Jim (Bette), Patti (Angelo) and Randy (Michele), grandchildren Christina, Khashina, Kainen and Zeven. Also survived by many relatives and close friends. Michael was raised in Kamloops where he met the love of his life in high school. He Graduated from the U of Alberta and enjoyed 41 years as a dentist in New Westminster. He played many sports but his greatest passions were golf and bridge. Heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. D. Metzak, Homecare Nurses and the staff in the ER, ICU and CCU at Royal Columbian Hospital who helped him through a courageous two year battle. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Queens Ave United Church, 529 Queens Ave, New Westminster on Saturday, March 6 at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow at the Vancouver Golf Club. 771 Austin Ave, Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers donations In Memoriam may be made to the RCH Foundation, 330 E. Columbia St, New Westminster.
