With great sadness, we announce the passing of Tosh Saito. Husband, father (in-law), grandfather, fisherman, handyman, mechanic, volunteer, friend; he will be missed by many.
Tosh is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mitzi; his brother Yosh (Rose); sisters-in-law Michi, Betty, and Emily; children Bob (Ellen), Debbie (Ken), and Mike (Evelyn); grandchildren Shannon (Derek), Kevin, Steven, Stephanie and Sonya; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Tosh was born in Pitt Meadows, BC and grew up on the family farm with siblings Tats, Sho, Min, Mush, Yosh and Kay. During the Internment, the family farmed in Kamloops.
Tosh and Mitzi married in 1954 and raised their family in Surrey, BC. Tosh's passion was family, fishing and helping others. Tosh, Mitzi and the family spent countless weekends building on their property on Mayne Island and fishing in Active Pass.
Tosh faithfully followed the motto, "A family that fishes together, stays together!" He was the consummate handyman and the ultimate nice guy. He was able to build or fix anything and was always willing to help anyone, whether a relative, a friend, or a complete stranger who was having boat motor trouble at the wharf in Miner's Bay, Mayne Island. A testament to his unrelenting spirit of helping others: In 2002, Tosh was honoured as "Mayne Islander of the Year"; in 2007, he was recognized by the Province of BC with the "Governor General, British Columbia Community Achievement Award".
