Mr. A. Perry, B.A.
  • Born in New Brunswick
  • Married Mamie Keith
  • After leaving Kamloops in 1906, he taught for a number of years at Victoria High School in Victoria BC

Mr. F.F. Smyth, B.A.
  • Active in baseball and volunteer fire dept.
  • After leaving Kamloops in 1909 he moved to Vancouver where he worked for Vancouver Trust in Real Estate.
1909-1918

Mr. A.F. (Allan) Matthews, M.A.
  • Born in Alberton, Prince Edward Island
  • Educated at Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown and at Dalhousie
  • Taught at Prince of Wales College
  • Taught at KHS in 1909 and became principal that year
  • After KHS he became inspector of schools working in Kamloops and other districts.
  • After his retirement he served two years as trustee of SD 24 upon its formation in 1945
  • Community activities included: Yale Cariboo Music Festival; Library Board; President of the Canadian Club; Masonic Lodge; and Rotary
  • He was an elder of the Kamloops Presbyterian Church
  • He died in 1967. His wife Lydia predeceased him in 1966. He was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Huntley Corkle (Dorothy) who lived with her father at 75 West Battle and Mrs. K.G. Pearson of Smith Falls ON.
1918-1922

Mr. T.R. Hall, B.A.
  • Born in Halifax, N.S.
  • Became principal of Kamloops Public School in 1912
  • Married a fellow teacher, Miss E. McCurdy
  • Appointed principal of KHS in 1918
  • In 1920 he was appointed supervisor of KHS and Kamloops Public School
  • In 1922 he became Inspector of Schools at Kelowna and later at Peace River
  • In 1936 he was appointed Vice-Principal of Vancouver Normal School
  • Became Principal of Vancouver Normal School in 1942.
  • Retired in 1944 to White Rock, and lectured part time at UBC and wrote a number of text books.
  • Died in 1969 leaving his wife Eva, a son and a daughter.
  • Member of Gyros.
1922-1929

Mr. McNab B.A.
  • Born in Ashton, Ontario
  • Began teaching at the High School in 1910
  • Became principal of KHS in 1922
  • Resigned as principal when the Junior High became part of the High School in 1929
  • Continued as a teacher at KHS for one year and then retired
  • Moved to Little Fort
  • Member of the Masonic Lodge and elder of the Kamloops United Church
  • Died in 1954 and was survived by a son, Donald of Vancouver and a daughter, Jessie (Mrs. John McLaren) of Powell River.

Dr. J.F. K. English, M.A., PhD.
  • 1929 appointed supervisor of Kamloops High School and Kamloops Junior High School.
  • 1932 became president of Library Board
  • 1933 Provisional President of the proposed Kinsmen Club
  • President of Young Men’s Club (Gyro)
  • 1935 President of Canadian Club
  • 1939 Appointed Inspector of Schools Peace River.
  • Served as Inspector in a number of districts and later became Deputy Minister of Education for BC

Mr. W.H. Gurney, M.A.
  • Born on Parent’s homestead near Rosser, Manitoba in 1904
  • Moved to Matsqui in 1906 with family
  • At age 18 after 1 year of Normal School began teaching at Alexandria in the Cariboo (for $1,140 / year)
  • Principal of Keremeos Elem./Sec. School 1923-'29
  • Met and married Olive Mattice in Keremeos
  • 1929 the Gurney’s moved to Kamloops and "Bill" taught Bus. Ed. at KHS
  • He completed his B.A. and M.A. through summer courses
  • Principal of KSS from 1939 – 1959
  • Became Superintendent of Schools in Kitimat-Terrace-Hazelton and Inspector of Indian School in the Naas River Valley, and later Alberni and Qualicum districts.
  • Retired in 1968 after 46 years of serving education in BC
  • In retirement he spent many hours and wrote several volumes about the American Civil War and the History of BC
  • Bill and Olive raised 4 sons: Bill, KHS class of ’54 (recently retired after 30 years of teaching in Kamloops, Don, class of ’59, now a lawyer in Vancouver, Jim, an electricl engineer, and Bruce a teacher in North Vancouver.
  • Mr. Gurney, the longest serving Principal of KHS passed away in 1980 leaving wife Olive, sons William, Donald, James and Bruce and their families.
