Michael Shanks

Class of 1988


  • performed in supporting and lead roles, between 1993 and 1998, with UBC Frederic Wood Theatre, UBC Summer Players, UBC Dorothy Somerset Studio, Stratford Festival, Ontario and Stanley Theatre Arts Club of Vancouver playing, in the latter, the lead role of Hamlet.

  • played a lead role for 9 seasons of the award winning science fiction TV series “Stargate-SG-1” as well as lead role in 2 direct-to-DVD “Stargate SG-1” films The Ark of Truth and Continuum.

  • has appeared in a number of short films and tele-movies including: The Artist's Circle, (selected for the 53rd Cannes International Film Festival), Door to Door (nominated for two Golden Globes and won six Emmys) and, more recently, Living Out Loud (2009 Leo Award winner).

  • has made numerous guest appearances in popular science fiction and drama series including: “The Outer Limit”, “The Twilight Zone”, “CSI Miami”, “24”, “Smallville” and “Burn Notice”.

  • has received nominations for a number of Leo and Saturn awards for Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series, Best Lead Actor in a Television Series, Best Supporting Actor on Television, Best Guest Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series.

  • won the Leo award in 2004 for best Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series for his performance in “Stargate-SG-1” episode “Lifeboat”.

  • won the Leo award in 2009 for Lead performance by a Male in a Feature Length Drama for his performance in Stargate:Continuum.

  • won SyFy Portal Award 2005 for Best Supporting Actor on Television for his role in “Stargate SG-1”.
